Eligibility Criteria

TO BE ELIGIBLE, each researcher must simultaneously fulfill the following criteria at the time of recruitment:

1. NATIONALITY

The researcher may be of any nationality.

2. MOBILITY

At the time of recruitment, the researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc) in the host’s country for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment to the project. Compulsory national service and/or short stays (holidays) are not taken into account.

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

PLEASE, make sure you understand the difference between an ESR position (leading to a PhD degree) and an ER position (NOT leading to a PhD degree since it is addressed to more experienced researchers, although a PhD degree is not required for eligibility)

An Early Stage Researcher (ESR):

is a researcher who, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, has not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and is in the first 4 years of his/her research career. This time is measured from the date of obtaining the Master degree which entitles him/her to embark on a doctorate, irrespective or not a doctorate is envisaged.

An Experienced Researcher (ER):

Is a researcher who, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, must be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. In ITN, experienced researchers must also, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, have less than five years of full-time equivalent research experience.

Full-time Equivalent Research Experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the Master degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged.
